Team – cross regional collaboration & shared purpose
From silos to an aligned global leadership team with a shared purpose – collaborating across regions, confronting courageous conversations achieving success, growth and feeling good about it.
The Challenge: The head of a global team in economics research for financial services contacted us after poor results on their employee survey. They highlighted conflict and fracturing in the team leading to silos working and competing agendas. The team was delivering results but didn’t feel successful.
What we did: We worked with the senior leadership team initially using structured interviews and The Team Health Check to uncover the core issues and provide the team with anonymous information so that they could see the key issues and create momentum for change. The team found it both intensive and uncomfortable to face some of the unspoken issues.
This led to workshops over 2 years – both with the leadership team and with the wider team, initially focusing on communication, engagement and clarity of shared purpose. We transferred skills to the team – co creating a design and supporting them to facilitate an experiential workshop which built breadth and depth of the core functional skills which freed the leadership team to focus on more strategic thinking and priorities.
The result:
A year on the employee survey results for the leadership team jumped more than 30 points. The Team Health Check showed double digit % shifts in terms of shared direction, commitment to each other and ability to confront tough conversations. The Head of the team saw significant positive impact – the team stepped up as leaders and a leadership team and more than that they achieved business success and growth in a tough period. The moved from critiquing to recognising their success and feeling more satisfied.
